Loss of Hayah – Modesty

I was talking to someone about the plight of the Muslim community now, and he said to think about it this way, what sins haven’t we done. In our communities, in our friend circles, it has almost become encouraged to perform sins and speaking out against it; speaking on the side of hayah, pointing out modesty has become a point to make fun of people for. Recently I wore a kufi – religious hat when I went to go hang out with a few people, and the first thing I heard was why have you become so religious, as if there is something wrong with that. First of all, I wore the hat to control my hair, secondly, what’s wrong with wearing a religious hat?

The Muslim community in this country and around the world is facing challenges not only from the outside world, but we face challenges within our community itself. We hear and see sins taking place, but we are afraid to say something out of fear of getting labeled ‘relgious’. What ever happened to commanding the good and forbidding the evil?

Ultimately when we lose hayah – modesty, we givein to shaitan – the devil, and what he wants us to do. We need to be able to stand up and command what is good and forbid what is evil.

Something that got to me more than anything was that in friends circles, people usually avoid talking about issues, rather than confronting them head on, especially issues dealing with hayah and actions of others. People tend to avoid it in the mask of protecting friendships, but if people were truly friends, they would be able to handle what is said.

Just my thoughts,

That’s it for now, more soon..
