Close Your Eyes..
I was talking to someone who was telling me about his bad day. He said that he woke up and his laptop charger broke and a few other things happened, to that I responded, smile that you woke up today and think of all those who didn’t.
While you read this, take one minute to close your eyes. Yes now. Close your eyes and keep them closed for roughly one minute.
Now that you’ve opened your eyes, what do you notice? You may notice your computer screen and this post and you may be reading it, but think to yourself what are you really doing? You reading, you can see this, and now think to yourself how many people in the world can’t read this or can’t see this.
I recently moved in with a deaf roomate, he can’t hear anything I may say to him. We communicate via AIM and texts and I’ve learned a lot just by living with him for the past few days. He watches TV with subtitles, reads quite a lot and is virtually always on AIM. He has given me such a great understanding about myself and has made me aware of what I have. I have the ability to see and hear, to touch, to taste and smell and it got me to thinking of all the other people in the world who don’t have the same privledges.
Too often we get caught up in our own lives to realize how much we have. We have to be able to realize all that we have. Think to yourself what if you woke up tomorrow and you couldn’t see or hear, what would you do? How would you feel?
Too often we don’t think about others and the situations they are in. We need to think about these things, for it gives us a better insight into our own lives and a better understanding of who we are as people.
I’m looking forward to reading everyone’s thoughts on this.
That’s it for now, more soon

I need to reflect more on God’s grace. I’m woefully negligent.

MashaAllah, thanks for this post. This reminded me of a similar incident during winter break, seeing two deaf people communicate in sign language, not able to hear the bus or its riders, only see everything, and how hard it was to imagine not hearing the noise of the bus, the scraping of the shoes, it felt so foreign trying to understand their language, that it made me want to learn sign language in the future. It is truly amazing how little we stop to think and count our blessings, but once in while God does remind us, and it is sad that human beings are always forgetful of this. Thanks again.
